Chickadee - Original Watercolor Artwork

$300.00
Sold Out

My daughter Sadie is the inspiration for this chickadee. Maybe I should give credit where credit is due and tag @wildkrattstv for catching her attention with all these facts about chickadees:

1. Chickadees don’t fly south for the winter.

2. Chickadees get bullied by bluejays, but one chickadee will distract a Blue Jay while the others steal it’s seeds.

3. Quick & agile flyers.

4. Through the summer, they grow a new set of warm feathers for the winter. They can PUFF up their feathers to make them 20% bigger - it traps warm air, insulates them, and keeps them warm. It also makes them look puffy and cute.

5. In cold nights, it can drop it’s body temperature so low that it goes into a state of hypothermia to save energy.

6. The chickadee will steal woodpecker’s food (hibernating insect larvae) while it’s not paying attention.

7. Has to add 10% more weight every day for the winter8. They store their food to eat for later - hiding seeds in trees & remembering where they put it.
