Figure Drawing

from $39.00

High quality Giclee print on gorgeous Somerset Velvet fine art paper for premium quality and lightfastness. Framed or unframed options are available. Prints are 8” x 10” with a 1” border for framing. Following is the caption I wrote when I posted this on instagram

One of my favorites from last night’s @soma.figuredrawing session with model @official_josephanthony_pony at @agreendoorstudio in Millburn. This was a 20 minute drawing that I colored in the morning well after the session was over. I had a *whole* plan for how I was going to approach each segment of drawing last night, and I mostly stuck with it. The first 10 1-minute drawings were all going to be gestural watercolor sketches. The 5 three minutes were the same. The two 10-minute drawings I had planned on focusing on the model’s face, and working on a portrait. Then the 20’s were going to be like this - a rendering of the entire room.

This plan almost entirely worked! Can’t say that every drawing was successful though. I’ve been trying to get used to the water brushes (brushes with water in the handle for on-the-go painting) but it’s kinda tricky controlling how much water is happening. SOME of those sketches were great but most of them were a big old mess. I switched to my standby of just using a black micro gel pen, and things went much better. The 10 minute portraits were 50% successful. One of them would’ve been the back of his head, so I switched up that plan on the fly.

The two 20’s were fun! These small sketchbooks is my thing these days, and this does a better job of capturing these drawing nights better than any drawing I’ve done yet. Especially since Joseph is facing away from me here and we get to see the artists (including @melaniecurtis11 and @richardmartha) focusing on him.
