Natural History Museum

from $39.00

High quality Giclee print on gorgeous Somerset Velvet fine art paper for premium quality and lightfastness. Framed or unframed options are available. Prints are 8” x 10” with a 1” border for framing. Following is the caption I wrote when I posted this on instagram

It’s weird to acknowledge that I’ve been doing things as an adult for decades now, but here we are, and there’s the aughts over there, two decades ago. I’ve been drawing at the @amnh for decades now, and this was the first time I drew anything other than just the animals in the dioramas. This was also the first time I went with a group of other artists - @nycurbansketchers. It was just this week that I found out about this group, because the guy i stalk on Instagram - @gavindedraw - is hosting a session where they’re drawing grand central next week. When I found out that this group was going to the Natural History Museum to draw, I was like “these are my people 😳👽🫶”

It was awesome meeting these like minded folk! It turns out that this is some kind of international cabal of @urbansketchers and they have symposiums. Symposiums! I want to go to a symposium about having a sketchbook!I couldn’t stay for the entire day of drawing, but the best part was meeting for lunch, checking out eachother’s work, and learning about new doodads and art supplies that I absolutely must buy.

I chose the hall of African Mammals because I wanted to maximize the number of people who were trying to squeeze by me at any given time. Once I decided to go to the 2nd floor and draw the WHOLE DAMN room though, I put in my headphones, listened to some Justin Timberlake (I truly don’t care if you judge me for this. It was the right vibe for the moment) and zoned out all the distractions. 10/10, would sketch again.
